Explore Biodiversity of El Pijaral — “Bosque Encantado”
El Pijaral, also known as the “Bosque Encantado” or “Enchanted Forest”, is one of the most beautiful protected natural areas in Tenerife. Located in Anaga Rural Park, it is a well-preserved example of Canarian laurel forest and offers a direct connection with the island’s ancient ecosystems.
The area is rich in biodiversity and home to many endemic species, including the píjara fern, which gives the reserve its name, as well as unique birds such as the laurel pigeon and Bolle’s pigeon. Because El Pijaral is a strict nature reserve, access is controlled, and visitors must request permission in advance.
For Erasmus+ participants, this visit connects outdoor learning with biodiversity, sustainability, responsible tourism, and conservation. It helps them experience Tenerife beyond tourism and understand why fragile natural areas need careful protection.
